In this video, the word game Země Město, reveals the Czech people's deep interest in their rich and versatile language, where a play on words is second nature.

Production

Whilst staying at Howe Rokofsky's flat in Prague, I met some of his Czech students who came for regular English classes. After class, we would chat about what games might be particular to Czech people. After half an hour of pondering, someone cried out

"word games, Czech people are always playing with words"

Suddenly a waterfall of information about Czech word games came flooding out. There were many interesting games to choose from, but were difficult for me to follow considering this incredibly dense language, and me being somewhat dense with languages, I wasn't even going to try.

However, there was one game, Země Město (Town City), which I recognised.

Howe, Stáňa, Viktorka, Daša and her son Filip agreed to take part in making a video about this game.

Happy & Confused

Again this was a very short production with only 60mins shot for the game, introduction etc. Poor lighting got the better of the video quality, but it didn't matter too much, given that this was just a bit of fun.
